A useful place to start

Who this is for

Pawsitively supports a range of handlers and families across Greater Victoria and the West Shore. Training looks different depending on where you are starting from, and being clear about that is the first useful step.

  • Handlers training their own service dog. If you are working toward a service dog with your own dog, we guide you through foundation skills, public access and disability-mitigating tasks across the One-Year Owner-Trainer Service Dog Program. You can see the full 104-hour owner-trainer curriculum before deciding whether it is the right fit.
  • Handlers who are not sure yet whether their dog is suited to service work. An early, honest assessment tells you what your dog is showing you now, and what to watch as they develop. You can read what the Potential Service Dog Assessment covers before booking.
  • New puppy owners. Puppy testing and selection support, plus early socialization and foundations.
  • Pet owners who want manners, obedience or help with a specific behaviour. Individual support can focus on the skills that matter in your household and the situations your dog finds difficult.
  • Busy families who need safe, attentive dog walking. Dog walking is available across the BC service area, with care shaped around the dog's needs and comfort.

Service dog training requires documentation from your doctor as part of the handler side of the team. We will explain what is needed before you begin.

Mobile British Columbia service

Where we train across Greater Victoria and the West Shore

Our British Columbia services are mobile. Jenn meets clients in their homes and out in the community, and chooses settings according to the dog's readiness and the goals of the session. That means training happens where you actually live and move, not in a single fixed location.

  • Victoria
  • Langford
  • Colwood
  • Saanich
  • View Royal
  • Esquimalt
  • Metchosin
  • Sooke
  • West Shore generally

Because we come to you, the environment we train in is part of the plan — a quiet residential street, a busy plaza, a park, or your own front hallway, depending on what the dog needs next. An additional travel fee applies for appointments more than 45 minutes from Jenn's home; please confirm availability in your neighbourhood before booking.

Individualized guidance

How a plan comes together with Jenn

With Jenn, a plan starts with a conversation about your goals, your dog's history, and what daily life currently looks like. Jenn, the British Columbia trainer, then assesses where your dog is now and identifies the next useful skills rather than rushing toward a fixed timeline. The plan is paced to the individual dog, with their wellbeing, comfort and readiness guiding each step. Sessions may move between your home and the community so skills can become practical in real settings. You receive clear, usable guidance to continue between appointments, including what to practise, how to set up success, and when to pause or adjust. Progress is reviewed together, and the plan changes as your dog develops. For a fuller view of the program, see the full 104-hour owner-trainer curriculum. You can also read reviews from clients in Nova Scotia and British Columbia.

Clear answers before you begin

Common questions from BC handlers

Do you train service dogs in Victoria BC?

Yes. Pawsitively provides service dog training across Greater Victoria and the West Shore, including Victoria, Langford, Colwood, Saanich, View Royal, Esquimalt, Metchosin and Sooke. Training is mobile, so Jenn comes to you and to the places your dog needs to be confident in.

Do I need to bring my dog to you?

No. BC training is mobile. Jenn meets clients in their homes and in the community, and the setting is chosen based on the dog's readiness and the goals of the session.

How long does service dog training take?

Most teams work over roughly twelve months in the One-Year Owner-Trainer Service Dog Program, which includes 104 hours of individual training and guidance. Pacing depends on the dog's age, maturity and how training progresses, and it can take longer.

Can any dog become a service dog?

No, and an honest assessment matters. Temperament, confidence, health, sound and touch sensitivity, and the ability to settle in public all shape suitability. Our Potential Service Dog Assessment is designed to give you a clear, realistic picture early.

Do you train pet dogs too, or only service dogs?

Both. Pet dog training, puppy socialization, manners and obedience are available across Greater Victoria and the West Shore alongside service dog training.

Is there an assessment fee?

Yes. The Potential Service Dog Assessment is $150 plus applicable tax, for dogs six months and older. Puppy testing and selection support using Volhard Puppy Aptitude Testing is also $150 plus applicable tax.
